Tuvor (PTY) Ltd (Reg. 2026/454825/07) is the responsible party for personal information collected through the Tuvor platform, as defined under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). Our registered address is 1 Celery Drive, Treesbank AH, Midrand, Johannesburg, 2191. Tuvor's designated Information Officer is Tiyo Luwela, who can be reached at support@tuvor.co.za for any POPIA-related queries or requests.
We collect: account information (name, email address, phone number) when you register; profile information that tutors choose to provide (bio, subjects, qualifications, profile photo); session and operational data (session dates, notes, homework assignments) created within the platform; payment records that tutors choose to log; and technical data (browser type, IP address, device information) for platform security and performance. If you opt in on our website to be notified about upcoming features, such as our planned owner/team hub, we also collect the email address you provide for that purpose.
We use your information to: provide and operate the Tuvor platform; enable tutors, students, and parents or guardians to share relevant session information; send platform notifications and reminders; improve the platform based on usage patterns; and comply with legal obligations under South African law. We do not use your information for advertising or marketing to third parties. An email address you provide to be notified about an upcoming feature is used only to contact you about that specific feature, is not shared with any third party, and is not added to any other mailing list.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing purposes. We share information: between tutors, students, and parents or guardians only as directly necessary for the tutoring relationship (e.g., session notes are visible to the linked student and parent/guardian); with service providers who help us operate the platform, under strict data processing agreements (Supabase for database hosting, Vercel for platform and application hosting, Resend for sending transactional emails such as notifications and session reminders, Daily.co for live video tutoring sessions, Mux for hosting and streaming course library video content, PayFast for processing your Tuvor subscription payment, Microsoft Clarity for website usage analytics, and Upstash for rate limiting infrastructure); and when required by South African law or court order.
Your data is stored on servers in South Africa or within jurisdictions that meet POPIA cross-border transfer requirements. We use industry-standard encryption, secure authentication, and access controls. Profile photos are stored in a secure cloud storage bucket. Despite these measures, no system is completely secure, and we encourage you to use a strong password.
Under POPIA, you have the right to: know whether we hold your personal information; request access to your personal information; request correction of inaccurate information; request deletion of your information (subject to legal retention requirements); object to the processing of your information; and lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa. You can delete your own account directly at any time from your account settings, or contact us at support@tuvor.co.za to exercise any of these rights.
Students under 18 may use Tuvor with the consent of a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect additional personal information from minors beyond what is necessary for the tutoring relationship. Parents or guardians linked to a student account receive weekly email summaries of their child's tutoring activity, including session notes and progress updates.
Profile photos uploaded to Tuvor are stored in a publicly accessible storage bucket to allow them to be displayed on the platform. Do not upload a profile photo if you do not consent to it being publicly visible. You can remove your photo at any time from your profile settings.
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your own account (available anytime from your account settings), we immediately remove your personal information, such as your name, email, and contact details, and block further access. Records shared with another real person on the platform, such as session notes, homework, and payment history, are retained rather than deleted, since the other party (your tutor or student) has a legitimate ongoing need for their own copy of that history, and some records must be kept to meet South African tax and accounting requirements. If you'd like a copy of your data before deleting your account, contact support@tuvor.co.za first.
Tuvor uses session cookies for authentication purposes only. We also use Microsoft Clarity, a website usage analytics tool, to understand how tutors and students use Tuvor so we can improve it. Clarity may collect information such as pages visited, clicks, scrolling behaviour, and session recordings of how you interact with the site. This data is used only to improve the platform and is never sold or used for advertising. You can disable cookies in your browser but this will prevent you from logging in.
